Last week Hubby decided we should take a road trip to the World’s Longest Yard Sale on Highway 127. It starts in Gadsden, Alabama and ends in Michigan. The 127 Yard Sale, World’s Longest Yard Sale, is 690 miles long and spans 6 states. It’s held every year the first weekend of August.
We drove all day to Crossville, Tennessee and stopped there. We won’t go to Crossville next year. The hotels raise their rates $100 above their usual rates just for this yearly event. Not worth it.
Some of the prices at the tent sales seemed a little rich for us too. Maybe I’m just too cheap.
We decided to increase our road trip and drive further down Highway 127 to check out the home yard sales. They were better priced, but I was amazed at the beautiful mountain views from these homes. Wow.
Below are a couple of views from the back yards of the most beautiful yard sales ever.
Then Hubby decided we would take an additional road trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. What fun, an exciting adventure. This entire road trip was unplanned.
The week before we left on this road trip, I had committed to the Lord another 40 days of no fried foods and no desserts. Now look where I am, in a city with candy stores, fudge vendors, and ice cream shops at every corner. Desserts abundant. I’m surrounded by desserts, breathing the sweet air. Do you think sugar-laden air has calories? Looking down the street, I see desserts everywhere.
Lord, I know You have a sense of humor. Help me keep this commitment to You. Give me strength.
Thank You Lord, my vow survived. You provided my freedom from these temptations.
Further on our road trip, we came to a lot of small country shops. Hubby had to get his quota of root beer floats. Shaking my head in disbelief. Lord, I know You have a sense of humor. This isn’t funny!
The men at the ice cream shop were nice. When they offered to fix me something, I declined and got a diet coke. (I know, but it’s better than a root beer float.)
Then I shared with them how God delivered me of over 90 pounds weight loss. They were amazed. I gave God all the credit. So instead of caving into temptation, I shared the story of how God set me free and gave me victory over 90 pounds. Isn’t that neat.
Later I shared with them some humorous signs I saw in a wood shop. We all got to laughing. One of the men shared, “My niece posted on Facebook last week that she burned over 2000 calories in one day. She said that’s the last time she’ll take a nap while baking brownies.”
Our humorous conversation and my story of how God’s power delivered me from obesity kept me from feeling deprived at the soda shop. As Hubby finished his root beer float, God granted me victory.

These humorous signs are sold at “The Wood Cottage.” The owner gave me permission to take pictures and use in this blog. Yes, God has a sense of humor. Enjoy.
Yes Lord, thank you for everything, especially helping me resist temptation in this city of everywhere you look sweets. Thank you Lord for helping me keep my commitment on this unexpected road trip. Thank you Lord.
You’re welcome, My child. It was My pleasure.
