Remember this song?
“Count your many blessings. Name them one by one. Count your many blessings. See what God Has done.”
How often do you get over loaded and burdened with the struggles of life? Do you notice your blessings? Have your struggles and disappointments overwhelmed you? Stress can be caused by just looking at what you see. Wish I had a dollar for every time God spoke these words to my heart as I looked at what I saw and became over stressed.
“Don’t look at what you see, instead look at Me. Keep your eyes on Me.”
I’m in the process of getting back to goal weight and decided to keep a food journal. Recently I’d made a vow to give up desserts and fried foods for 40 days, a semi-fast. Then I lost the count of days due to my busyness and blew it on day 39. What a waste. If I’d kept my focus I would’ve held on for just one more day to finish my commitment. But nooo . . . I had to put my face in the leftover birthday cake.
Experts recommend keeping a food journal. They say it helps with success. So I started a food dairy, got the calendar and counted another 40 days. I’ll keep better track of this 40 days and won’t mess up again. Then after this commitment is done, I can have my desserts and fried foods back. Yea!
I went to my weight loss counselor (God) with this brilliant idea. Thought I was bright, I did.
He said, “Don’t focus on the foods you’re giving up to lose weight, instead focus on your blessing. Keep a journal of your blessings. As you surrender your eating in obedience, I’ll send blessings. Look for them. You can’t out give this King.”
So I write my blessings everyday and keep a food diary. Below is a page from my journal. Sorry, it’s messy. Wasn’t planning on sharing it, but it is what it is.
Remember how David used five stones to defeat his giant. I have some stones too and the power of the gluttony monster will be destroyed. God’s children can expect victory. All our giants will be defeated.
My five stones are scriptures written on an index card that I read everyday.
Why don’t you pick out five scripture stones for yourself, something to throw at your giant. Write them on an index card. Read it throughout your day. It’s the best diet pill ever. It will build you up and make your stronger.
Maybe I’ll eat birthday cake again, but never again will I put my face in it. Never another binge. You hear me? I’m claiming that as one of my blessings.
Everyday I ask God to renew my mind and direct my steps according to His will. At age 63, the mind needs renewing. You understand, age issues, memory problems, but mainly the stinking thinking needs to be revised.
Do you have stinking thinking? Ask God to renew your mind too and count your blessings. Name them one by one. Count your blessings. See what God has done.
