Misplaced Blessings, Placemats

Misplaced Blessings

See the leaf shaped placemats on my table.

Did you know you could have misplaced blessings? This story of misplaced blessings involved Thanksgiving/Fall leaf shaped placemats. And yes, it’s a true story.

When I realized my blessing was lost, I went straight to God whining about it. What follows is my conversation with the Lord. Since I’m such a sassy child of God please pray for me. But do not follow my example

My Conversation with God:

Lord, I know I should be thankful for all things. But I had those placemats in my hand. You knew they were exactly what I’ve been looking for. But You let me put them back on the shelf. So she got them. Why Lord? Why did You let me lose my blessing?

They were an exact match to the leaf shaped placemats already on my table. After all there were eight placemats. My table sits eight. Her table only sits six. Yet she got my blessing, 8 placemats for only $3.99 at the Thrift store. Why Lord?

I had held them in my hand. They were all bundled up with a rubber band. I looked at that bundle wondering, “What are these?”

Then I put them back on the shelf and said, “I don’t know what these are. You check them out. I’m looking for a large tablecloth.”

So she did. Then when she showed me what they were my heart sank. I’ve been looking for these everywhere. But because she was so excited to place them on her Thanksgiving table, I couldn’t say a word. I would not take away her joy.

Why didn’t I get them instead of her? They are my misplaced blessings. Those placemats were meant for me, but she got them. They were meant for me, yet I missed the joy of that blessing. Oh Lord, why did You let this happen?

To begin with, My child, didn’t I tell you before the day started to focus?

Yes sir.

You didn’t focus. I had placed that blessing in your hand, but you didn’t even look at it. Even though you held them in your hand, you didn’t even see this blessing I had already prepared for you because you were looking elsewhere.

Open your eyes to see the blessings I’ve already prepared for you. You’ve missed many blessings already just because you weren’t looking and weren’t expecting.

Learn from this, My child. If you overlook My blessings, then they’ll go to someone else who will be thrilled. And you will miss out.

Because she was looking, she found her “happy prize” blessing. It made her happy. So I’m pleased you showed love for her, by saying nothing about your desire for them.

But not only do you take My blessings for granted, but you overlook them as well. Open your eyes, behold how blessed you are.

I have joy for you too. But you need to look for it. Open your eyes to see. I have many blessings for you. I have many blessings for all My children.

Lord, I ask for Your forgiveness. Not only did I covet her blessing, but I whined and complained about it. My attitude was of self-pity and envy.

Forgive me and help me remember the lesson of these misplaced blessings of missed placemats. So I will never lose out on the blessings You have already prepared for me.

Child, what I have for you is better than placemats. It’s My Presence. Look for Me. And you needed to learn this lesson. So focus on My Presence and see your blessings.
