The Gluttony Monster

The Gluttony Monster

Lord, I think this gluttony monster comes to my house every evening. And when the compulsion from this monster hits, I don’t even stop to think. It consumes me.

I need more discipline, consistency, strength, and the power to say ‘No’ to this food obsession, this gluttony monster. I can’t change myself because I am powerless over myself.

But My Child, I have all the power you need.

Lord, My day starts out so good. I eat appropriate and sufficient. But then after supper, here comes this gluttony monster to consume my health.

Yes Child,  I see it all. My heart hurts for you. And I long to set you free. It is My will to set you free.

So Lord, what can I do? I know You said to semi-fast for 40 days. But ever since that day, I’ve been invaded by this overwhelming compulsive to overeat. In fact, I’ve been eating like crazy.

I know You said, ‘Come to You’. But I haven’t stopped eating long enough to ‘come’ to You. Lord, I don’t know what to do.

I want to please You. I want to love You as I should. But here I am, all messed up.

I can pray words, “Create in me a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit”. But they are only words, just words, unless I change.

Child, I have watched you and I’ve been waiting for you even as you fell. But I’m always waiting to catch you. I will help you, for I have the power.

You will win over this addiction, over this gluttony monster. You will defeat this compulsion for I created you to be a victor. I created you for victory.

So Lord, what do I do?

Pray without ceasing. Every hour of every day come to Me. Check it off your time schedule if you must. But you must come to Me.

Lord, I do want You to create in me a clean heart. And I long for a steadfast spirit before You. Fill me with Your sweet Presence daily and forevermore.

Child, I intend to. You will win over this compulsive gluttony monster. For I am THE WINNER and I created you to be a winner too. Therefore expect victory.

Be strong in the Lord

There are no perfect people, but God has already planned for your victory.

Expect victory. You will have your victory for I have already designed it. I am holding it in My hand. And you are a winner. You will win.

It may look like defeat to you. But when I look at you, I see a winner. You are Mine. You are a winner for I have already declared it so.

Now get up and wash your face. Go forth today marching in your victory

Thank you Lord for not giving up on me.

Child, I never give up on any of My children.

FEED OH THIS

You have already won a victory . . . because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1John 4:4 NLT

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10: 3-4 ESV

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. . . . James 4:7-8

Fast From Social Media? Please Lord, No!

Posted on by

Lord, help me to fast today, especially tonight after supper. That’s when the Gluttony Monster comes. I want to kill him!

Then Child, don’t feed him. I’ll tell what else you need to fast from, . . . your social media/cell phone. Fast from your cell phone tonight after your supper.

What? . . . Oh Lord, I’m not sure I can do that.

Your mind turns off when you are zoning out. Therefore when the Gluttony Monster shows up you’re already zoned out. That’s why you’re weak, your mind is zoned out. You’re allowing social media and the Gluttony Monster to control you. How can I renew your mind when you are zoned out?

It’s the same when you watch television with all those food commercials. The power of mind suggestion is a powerful thing. Satan knows how to use it to keep My children defeated. But no more, for I have defeated him with My Holy Spirit. As My children yield their wills to My guidance, I can lead them to victory.

But Lord, what will I do with myself at night after supper?

Well, let’s see. . . Maybe you could talk to your husband. Or maybe, you could go outside for a walk. Which by the way, you’ve become weak My child, physically, mentally, and yes, even spiritually.

Lord . . .

Yes My child.  . . You could also feed yourself My Word. That’s really what you need to become stronger, more of Me.

If you’re sitting in the same room as your husband while he’s watching television, get your notebook and write notes to Me. You can talk with Me even while in a room with others and the television blaring. Do you think you can only talk to Me during your morning devotional time?

Not so, I want to be involved, rather included, in all areas of your life. Don’t shut Me out of your evenings just because the house is not quiet. Child, that’s one reason the Gluttony Monster can enter in. Because you shut Me out when you zoned out on that cell phone of yours. To repeat Myself, I want to be included in every area of your life, not just your morning quiet time.

Now I’m calling you to a fast. Yes, I want you to fast the time period after your evening meal. Give that time to Me. Whether the house is quiet or not, I want that time period of your day.  You can include your family, but I want you to be aware of My Presence. So yes, I’m calling you to a fast. No food and no social media after your evening meal for 40 days.

But Lord, I usually eat my evening meal around 5 P.M. And that’s at least four hours before bedtime. What will I do with myself?

You’ll figure it out. It will end up being your favorite time of the day. Your evenings will become full of peace instead of food. How would you like that?

By the way, others have said that reading Psalms brought them peace. Why don’t you try that?

Or you could complete a craft project or write on your computer. Then you would be creating, My child. You’d be copying Me by creating something out of nothing. Humans were created in My image. That’s why it makes them happy to be creative, for they are creating just as I created. It is part of My nature, to create. Since humans are created in My image, it is part of their nature too.

You also could go for an evening walk and enjoy the nature around you. Nature is My creation, you know. Child, there is so much joy for you to experience. That’s why I want you to fast after your evening meal, both from food and social media. Not to take away your pleasure, but instead to fill you with My pleasure and find joy in My creation, both in your creation and in My creation.

Now what do you say? Are you willing to fast after your evening meals for 40 days, both from social media and unnecessary food?

Okay Lord, I’ll try.

Try nothing, you will. If you truly want the joy I’ll bring, then you will.

Yes Sir. I will. Thank you for talking to me.

Child, you were wondering how to break this bondage of gluttony. So, here’s another key to your freedom, fasting after your evening meal. Do this and you will see what I will do. Keep a record of the joys I bring to you each day. Your joy will increase and your victory will come back.

Another thing My child, lately you’ve been bringing that social media into our morning meeting place. Don’t do that anymore. I want your eyes on Me, not your social media.

Child, through this next 40 days of fasting, you’re going to gain strength, physically, mentally,  and spiritually too. Just watch and see what I will do. Now I’m going to send Victory as your evening companion. Instead of the Gluttony Monster, you will have Victory coming in. All My children are winners, living in victory. Victory is yours to be had too. I’m sending Victory now to be your companion. Look for it.

Lord, thank you for talking to me. Thank you.

Child, you could also spend your evening time in intercession for those you are concerned about, those you love and those on your prayer list. Then you could watch and see what I do in their lives as well.

Yes Sir.

Fight The Gluttony Monster With God’s Solid Food – Holy 30 Devotional**- Day 11 & 12

Posted on by

Lord, the Gluttony Monster comes to my house at night. He doesn’t bother me during the day for the most part, but he shows up most every night to harass me. How can I fight him? He’s bigger and stronger than me. I’m such a weakling against him. He beats me up most every night.

He usually shows up every evening around suppertime, sometimes before supper, sometimes after. Then he hangs around for a late night snack, only it’s a buffet. Sometimes he rides in the car with me and forces me to turn my car into the fast food drive-up windows. What can I do?

I’m not supposed to have murder in my heart. This I know,  but I REALLY WANT TO KILL this Gluttony Monster. He’s taking control of my life and I’m sick of it. He torments me all the time. I feel so helpless and defeated by this enemy.

This past Wednesday night at church, the pastor said that you don’t have to give into sin and then say you can’t help it. He said  the only reason you can’t help it is that you’re not willing to yield yourself to the Holy Spirit’s control. Lord, is that true?

Yes, My child, it is true.

Well then, Lord,. . .  I give myself to You right now. Place me under the control of Your Holy spirit. You take control of me. Anyway I’m not doing a very good job of self-control right now. As a matter of fact, it seems I’ve never done a good job of self-control. I give myself to You. Take me, use me, for I am Yours.

Help me kill this Gluttony monster? Help me! I hate being controlled by him.

Child of Mine, one way to defeat this Gluttony Monster is to quit feeding him. Feed your soul instead.

Lord, how do I do that?

To begin with, feed your soul by reading My Word, The Bible. Reading your Bible instead of looking at that Facebook will make you stronger. You give medicine to your dog twice a day. When your Dad was recuperating at your house after his knee surgery, he took medicine twice a day. Now I’m giving you a spiritual prescription. Read My Word twice a day, morning and night. If you do this, you will grow stronger and defeat this Gluttony Monster, your enemy.

That’s how I defeated My enemy. I had been in the Wilderness for 40 days and my enemy came with all his temptations, but I defeated him with the Word of God. I defeated him with, “It is written . . .”

Once you become full of My Word, you can also tell your enemy, “It is written.” He can never go against My Word. I won’t even go against My Word. If it is written, then it is forever to be.

You must feed on My solid food to defeat and destroy this Gluttony Monster. Now My child, get out your Bible and feed yourself My solid food. You aren’t a wimpy baby. ‘It is written’.  Now feed My Words to your mind and grow up.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”  He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4: 1-4

For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me. Psalm 18:39

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. Revelation 12:10

SISTERHOOD OF THE WORLD BLOGGER'S AWARD

Posted on by

IMG_5437A while back my youthful weight loss buddy Rachel,  nominated me for a “Sisterhood of the World Blogger’s Award”.  Thank you Rachel, following your blog and reading of your successes is a reward in itself. www.myjourneyonedayatatime.wordpress.com

I feel like a proud grandma even though we’ve never met in person. You’ll enjoy reading her journey. She’s been an inspiration to me with her weight loss of 66 pounds and graduating from college with Magna Cum Laude honors at the same time. I’m so proud of her. When I was in college I probably gained 66 pounds. I always studied with a huge bowl of popcorn. At 230+, I waddled across the stage to get my diploma.

With this award comes an assignment. Now it’s past time to answer the questions,  and pass this award on to others.

Award Questions:

1. In one word, how would you like your readers to describe your blog? ( I hope, “Encouraging”.)

2. Which is your most favorite among your blog posts? Why? ( “70 Reasons I’m Thankful God Helped Me Lose Weight” – This is my favorite because I have to give credit where it’s due – God helped me. Without Him I would still weigh 241, maybe more by now.)

3. What, who inspires most of your blog posts? ( I write most of my blog posts with a pen in my hand and a 5-subject spiral notebook during my personal devotional time with my Lord. I write my questions and complaints, mostly complaints and then I write what He speaks to my heart. I believe in God, the Father, Jesus Christ, the son, and the Holy Spirit as a Trinity. It’s similar to an egg with the yolk, the white, and the shell. They’re different, but one and the same.- free theology lesson.)IMG_0408

4. What do you inspire to accomplish this year? (I want to encourage/help as many people as I can know that God is the answer to all our struggles, be it weight or otherwise. Only He can set us free from our self-inflicted bondage. I have said that He saved me from myself. Chew on that one.)

I’ve also wrote a devotional book, and submitted it to a publisher. Hopefully it will be out in January 2016,  God willing. One day, I would love to speak at Christian women groups.  I enjoy sharing about my relationship with Christ.  After all, He’s my best friend and my weight loss counselor too. I love Him for what He’s done for me, more than helping me losing weight.)

5. What do you aspire to learn this year? (I would like to learn how to write inspiring Christian fiction just for fun. Since I’m tech challenged, I would like to become more tech efficient.)

6.What is your most favorite book? Why? (I enjoy reading from my New King James Version Bible. I chose that version because it’s easier for me to comprehend. Sometimes it’s amazing how I sense God speaking to me through His Word. Like that book was just written for me. )

7. What’s the most courageous thing you  have ever done? (I once stayed at the hospital for three days and nights without leaving with a young man who died from cancer.  He had adopted me as his mother since his Mom had died  years earlier. He needed me so I stayed. I was the only one there when he went to heaven. I’d never witnessed death before. Immediately I called the nurses to let them know the machines had stopped and  he was gone. They all filled the room to say “bye” to him. I’ve never felt God’s Presence  as I did that morning. He died unafraid with someone who loved him by his side. God was there too.)

8. If you could be a superhero, what would be your superpower? (You’ll laugh at this. I would like to be a “Ghostbuster” so I could destroy the demon of gluttony. Remember that scene of the gluttony monster eating everything. IMG_5438

If I could I’d destroy the demons of alcoholism, tobacco addiction,  and drug abuse, too. How about all addictions, sickness, poverty, basically all evil. Hmmm, sounds like I’d like to be God.  Uh-oh. I’ve been guilty of telling Him what I think He should do. Now I’m waiting for lightening to strike me. Uh-oh. Watch out. Don’t stand by me in a storm.)

9. Who is your female role model? (Believe it or not, I identify most with adulterous woman in John 8:1-12.  I feel as though I’ve committed adultery many times in my heart due to my love for food. There was a time when I loved food more than my God or my husband. Only someone with a food addiction can understand that.

When you want to experience secret pleasure with something/someone else more than the one you made a promise of commitment to, that’s adultery.  My heart has been adulterous many times with food pleasure.  Jesus told the adulterous woman to go and sin no more. I can’t say that I have sinned no more. My false lover, food pleasure, is still there just waiting to entice me with His pleasures. God’s Presence destroys the power of gluttony.

It’s been said that adulterous woman is the same Mary that anointed Him with costly perfume and wiped His feet with her hair. John 12: 1-8. I don’t know if that’s true, but let’s suppose it is.  Mary surrendered her life to serve the one that set her free from her demons.  He set me  free from the demon of food addiction. I’ve also surrendered my life to serve Him.

Rules of the award:

  • Thank the blogger that nominated you and post a link to their site.
  • Put the award logo on your site.
  • Answer the same questions above.
  • Nominate seven blogs.

To pick only seven of my favorite blogs is very hard for I enjoy all of them. Previously I nominated some of my favorites to the WordPress Family Award. To be fair, I won’t nominate those blogs to this award. I’ll choose differently this time.

My Seven Nominees:

1. www.fittoservegroup.wordpress.com  (They have a  church support group in southern Florida. One day I’ve love to visit them.)

2. www.peacewithfood.com   (Written by Robyn and  Lara. Their mantra is, “Eat what you want, Never diet again, Live a happy Life.” I agree.

3. www.kidfarmer.wordpress.com  (She writes “Thoughts of a Christian Cowgirl.”)

4. www.littlemoreeachday.wordpress.com  (She blogs about health and running, but I love most of all the stories of her son.)

5. www.2fatnerds.com  (This blog is written by a couple and their whole family is focusing on being healthy.)

6. www.dottotrot.com   (Dot has lost 125 pounds. Her blog includes health information and recipes too.)

7. www.sassyfitnesschick.com     (Her blog is about health issues. She’s a runner that hates  diets. She thinks you should make small changes to improve your diet, not go on a diet. We agree.)
