Love Is . . .

Love is . . .

— when a husband hugs his wife and says, “I’m sorry I didn’t get you anything for Mother’s Day.” The wife smiles and answers, “I’m not your Mother.”

Love is. . .

— a Dad who must talk to his adult children everyday just to hear their voices and know their lives are good.

— a Dad who tries to  fill  a Mother’s shoes because God called her home. He listens patiently, no matter the time,  as his children talk to him about everything and nothing as well.

— a man who keeps a picture of his wife on the lampshade at her side of the bed so her face is the last thing he sees at night.

— a woman who cooks a meal for her Dad on Mother’s Day because she knows he misses her Mom, who’s now in Heaven .

— a woman listening to the conversation of four men at her table, two elderly men (81 yrs. & 95 yrs.) who are alone on Mother’s Day because their wives went to Heaven, a husband who appreciates his wife cooking a meal to honor these Dads (one of them-his) on Mother’s Day, and a previously wayward son talking to the other men about his plans for the future. She’s filled with amazement at the scene of these men talking together. Thank you Lord for this miracle.

Love is . . .

— when the (out-of -state) older son calls at 7:30 a.m. to say “Happy Mother’s Day” because he wanted to be the first one and he knew how important his phone calls are to his Mom. He knew his day would get busier and he didn’t want to forget.

— when a daughter-in-law asks for prayer considering a job opportunity. It’s an honor and privilege to a Mother when children ask for prayer.

Love is. . .

— a bouquet of roses from her previous wayward son, an apology, and “I just wanted to say ‘Thank img_9259you’. They’re from Wal-Mart, I wish I could do more.” Wow!

— a God who grants  healing of broken hearts to both the Mother and her son.  Both have caused a lot of pain to each other in the past and the roses on a table are a miracle.

— when the Mother remembers a past Mother’s Day when she wanted to stomp the flower given at church because it was a hurtful time, and God made a baby rabbit hop across the patio so she could feel loved by God.

A promise given Mother’s Day, May 1999: Thus says the Lord: “Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the Lord, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope in your future, says the Lord, that your children shall come back to their own border. Jeremiah 31:16-17 (NKJV)

Love is still standing on this promise, but progress is being made.

— grandchildren writing anonymous love notes and putting them on the refrigerator to be found later.

— a Grandmother who cooks your favorite foods just because.

— grandchildren making homemade Mother’s Day cards and tissue flowers to place on their Great-Grandmother’s gravesites.

— a Grandmother taking her grandchildren to gravesites so they can get closure in their hearts over these Great-Grandmothers that loved them. The grandchildren lived four states away during the time of the funerals.

— listening to grandchildren share the memories of their Great-Grandmothers with each other.

Love is . . .

— a Mother and her previous daughter-in-law (divorce) waiting to open presents they got each other at the same time.

Both presents were inexpensive, but it’s the love expressed that’s so valuable and treasured.

Love is . . .

— grandchildren who sang as they brought a birthday cake with lit candles to their Grandmother even if it was 9pm when they arrived from out-of-town. (Last year’s birthday)

— a Grandmother that ate cake at 9pm because of the smiling grandchildren even though she made a commitment to eat only three meals a day.

— a God that smiles at both the grandchildren and the Grandmother because the emphasis is not on the cake, but on the love expressed by all.

— a  God who says, “It’s not the rules I’m interested in, it’s Your heart I long for. As you submit your will and heart to Me, I will bless you with your heart desires-love from your family.

— when after everyone has left, the husband hugs his wife and says, “I’m glad you had a good Mother’s Day. I’m sorry I didn’t get you anything. The wife hugs him back and with a smile replies, “I’m not your Mother, but it was a great day.”
