Christmas, Birthday Gifts, & Seeds

Posted on by

Christmas holidays, my birthday gifts, and planting seeds for the future. All this happened during the busiest month of the year, December. And yes, seeds for the future were planted.

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NKJV

Both my Lord and I had birthdays, both celebrated during the Christmas season. So I decided to give him a gift. And I thought I could plant some seeds for the future as well.

Back in the 80’s when I was in the process of having children, it was a known fact that the way to conceive another child was to give away your baby bed. When my oldest child was over 2 years old, I gave away the baby bed. Of course,  I then got pregnant with the second child. Lesson learned: If you want something, give out of your need.

Since I want my size 10 body back, I decided to give away all the size 10’s (winter clothes) in my closet.  Several weeks ago in a thrift store, a lady told me she was buying clothes for a Christian drug rehab center. She said due to Christmas holidays they had an overwhelming number of ladies and didn’t have enough clothes for them. “Hmmm, Lord, what about this?”

Then later while checking resale on Facebook, I saw a post from a young woman saying she had just got out of drug rehab and needed clothes. Several others responded to her need. So I guess she got what she needed. “Hmmm, Lord, what about this?”

Then I remembered my baby bed and what happened thereafter. After giving it away  I received a surprise gift, another baby boy. “Hmmm, Lord, what would You have me to do? Do I give away my size 10’s? A lot of them still have tags hanging on them. Surely You wouldn’t have me give them away. I’ve never worn them.”

Remember, it is more blessed to give rather than receive. If you want a harvest, you must plant seeds. Cast your bread upon the waters.

“Lord, if I give away my size 10’s, it would indeed be casting my bread upon the waters. I’d be just throwing my clothes away and the money spent on them too.”

No, My child, if you want a harvest you must plant seeds.

“Okay, I get it.” Sigh.

So I gathered up all those size 10 clothes. Some were still on hangers. Many still had tags hanging on them from past sales. I felt sad letting these go, but at the same time hope was beginning to stir. “Lord, were You trying to tell me something with the lady in the thrift store and the lady with the Facebook post? Hmmm, maybe so.”  Hope began to grow.

Then I loaded them all in the car. Oh wait, I went to my main closet and grabbed the stack of folded up size 10 jeans. Sigh. Put all of them in the car, found the drug rehab center via GPS, and headed out. All of this happened on my birthday. This seemed like the right day to give a birthday gift to my Lord.

If I want size 10, I must plant the seeds of size 10. Sigh. “Okay Lord, I’m trusting You. I’m letting go.”

When I got to the rehab center, the lady in the office told me where to go. She said, “The girls will help you unload.” So I followed her instructions. Out came the girls. They looked so happy. Most of them looked to be size 10. My heart filled with joy. “Hmmm, Lord, maybe You were right. I’m planting seeds of joy, both in these girls and in myself too.”

After I left the drug rehab center, I drove to my next destination to watch my granddaughter dance at a Christmas recital. When she invited me to come, she told me, “I’m an angel.” It was a joy to watch her.  Indeed, she was an angel.

After the dance recital, my oldest son treated me to supper out. What a treat! I had a wonderful birthday after all. Happy birthday Jesus! Merry Christmas to all of y’all and Happy New Year!

I’m expecting! How about you? Are you expecting God’s Presence and His blessings this upcoming year?

Merry Christmas!

Happy New Year!
