Are You Willing To Fast?

Posted on by

Last week the Lord asked me to fast for 40 days. I told Him, that for me, this was impossible. Here’s how our conversation went:

Child, are you willing to fast for 40 days?

Now Lord, You know I’m not capable of fasting for 40 days.

I asked if you were willing to fast. Specifically, do you want to gain self-control and become closer to Me?

Yes Lord, I do.

Then give Me 40 days.

Now Lord, I can’t go without eating for 40 days. Surely You know this. After all, I only know of two people who did this, Moses and Jesus. There may have been others, but I don’t know about them. What You are asking of me is impossible.

But I want your complete surrender for 40 days.

Lately I’ve been so disappointed over my eating. And now, You ask me to fast for 40 days? Lord, You know I can’t. Why would You ask this of me? After all, You know I can’t do this.

Child, no desserts.

Oh Lord. Surely, You know how much I love my desserts.  I can’t do this.

Child, do you believe in Me?

Yes Sir.

Do you believe I can do all things?

Yes Sir.

Do you believe I can heal?

Yes Sir.

Do you believe I can deliver you?

Yes Lord, I do. Lord, what do You want from me?

Child, do you want freedom?

Yes Sir.

Then what are you willing to give up in exchange? Everything has a price, so what are you willing to give? Are you willing to give up half your food? Are you willing to give up your desserts? This is the fast I am calling you to. So, are you willing?

Lord help me. Lord, help my unbelief. In fact I can’t do this without You.

But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 NKJV

“I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose–I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” Philippians 4:13 AMP

  1. Oh me, someone was talking about fasting, now I read this. I wonder if God is calling me to fast?
I doan wanna!! But I want all the benefits…

    • I know exactly how you feel. It doesn’t hurt to try it for at least one meal. See how that goes. I think the most important part of fasting is a heart seeking for more of God’s Presence. Be Blessed, Deborah

  2. How is it going, Debbie ? Please send updates.
