Lord, my niece asked me to make her favorite Christmas candy for our family gathering. Sigh. It’s made of sugar, and more sugar. I boil it and beat it with the mixer, then by hand. Then I put the nuts in it and drop it by the spoonful on wax paper.
You know how much I love this candy and I make it every year at Christmas. I’m the best I know of at making this candy. It turns out perfect every time, even when it rains. It just melts in your mouth. Everyone says it’s the best they have ever tasted. Did You give me this talent? Why would you give me a talent for making wonderful candy if You knew I would have a food addiction?
Also, I’m going to make another kind of candy cookie that is my son’s favorite. He loves this candy cookie and I do too. Now this candy cookie does not take talent or skill, just the right ingredients. Lord, I even cook it in the microwave so it’s quick and easy. Why would you give me the knowledge to fix this cookie candy if You knew I would have a food addiction?
My friend has created a special recipe for a signature cookie. She mixes up the dough and sells it raw so her customers can bake them at their own house for the hot fresh out of the oven experience. People pay her real money for these cookies. They’re wonderful and I love them. In the past I’ve eaten them until I got sick. Other people told me they’ve eaten these cookies until they got sick too. Now I’m going to have these cookies for my family gathering. Why would you give her the ability to create this recipe if You knew some of us would eat them until we got sick?
Here goes, I’m making the candy:
2. Drink my water.
3. Get my sugar-free gum.
4. Chew the gum. Chew, chew.
5. Drink more water.
6. Mix the sugar with the other ingredients, and more sugar.
7. Chew the gum. Chew, chew.
8. Drop the candy by the spoonful on wax paper.
9. Drink more water.
11. Don’t lick the pot. Quick, put water in the pot to prevent licking.
12. Chew the gum.
13. Drink more water.
14. Next cookie candy.
15. Put the peanut butter on the crackers.
16. Drink more water.
17. Chew the gum. Chew, chew.
18. Dip the crackers in “WONDERFUL” and place on wax paper.
18. Drink more water.
19. Don’t lick the spoon.
20. Don’t lick your fingers.
21. Wash your hands.
22. Drink more water.
23. Finally finished, get a cup of hot tea and put your feet up. Ahhh. Now relax.
Lord, I didn’t eat any candy. I didn’t lick the pot, the spoon, or my fingers. Wow. That’s a first for me, thank you. In the old days, before You delivered me from food addiction I’d lick the pot, sometimes with my tongue. I would lick the spoon, the beaters, the bowl, and my fingers. I usually left some extra in the pot or bowl just to eat with a spoon. Then I would eat candy until I got sick.
My friend decided to bake her signature cookies in advance for my family gathering. Then she gave them to me sealed and wrapped so I wouldn’t have to smell fresh-baked cookies for two days before the event. Thank you Lord.
Now that I remember how it was when I ate sweets until I became nauseous, I’m not sure that was enjoyment. Why did I think it was? It sounds more like gross punishment, to eat until you’re sick and miserable Ugh. Now Lord, You have given me permission to eat desert in small amounts. I can enjoy them without guilt, stomach pain, or indigestion. Thank you for allowing me to have these small pleasures.
(My child, I created honey and sugar cane for your enjoyment, not to provide opportunities to practice self deprivation, self punishment, or to increase your guilt. I created certain taste buds just to experience sweet taste, not to entrap you in obesity. I’m not a cruel god that demands self-sacrifice. I don’t find pleasure in your punishment. Instead, I granted you free will so you could choose love. I long for your love and companionship, not your forced obedience. It pleases Me when you seek the pleasure of My Presence more than your earthly pleasures, for the sweetness of My Presence will fill your soul with joy.
You can choose to over indulge in fleshly, worldly pleasures and then live with the resulting consequences or you can choose to enjoy your pleasure within the boundaries of moderation and self-control. Self control is a gift I use to increase your strength, both spiritually and physically. Every time you resist temptation to over indulge, your self-control increases in strength and power. I suggest you exercise your self-control, but it is your choice, My child.)
