Help me listen

40 Days of Victory
Day 7

Lord, help me listen to You. I do need to talk with You. But most important of all, help me to listen as You lead.

Yesterday, even though I’ve followed Your basic instructions for my eating I didn’t listen. Therefore this morning the scales went up. Lord, I know why. Not only was it wrong food choices but I didn’t stop eating when You led me to. Open my ears and my heart to listen more intently.

Last night, I ate left over pasta with chicken and broccoli. You spoke to my heart to stop eating because I was full. But I looked at my plate and there was still quite a bit left.

Then my thoughts came. Since this was a half portion leftover from another meal, I rationalized and felt entitled. So I ate it all.

The real issue is, I got full before I finished eating what was on my plate. You tried to lead me not to eat it all, but I ate all of it anyway. As a result, weight gain.

Lesson learned: It doesn’t matter if it’s a half portion. When full, stop eating.

Help me be willing to stop eating when my body feels full. Most of all Lord, help me follow as you lead no matter what my feelings or thoughts are.

Help me listen

I’ve asked You to remove the love of food from my heart and You were trying to answer my prayer. But I still insisted on my way. Help me listen and follow Your way, Your will in all things.

Help me to listen, trust and obey. I want to be full of You instead of food.

Child, when you let go of seeking your food pleasures then I can fill you with the pleasure of My Presence. I want to fill your heart with My love, not your food.

Feed On This

My sheep listen to My voice. I know them and they follow Me. John 10:27 NLT

Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting You. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You. Psalm 143:8 NLT

You will teach me God’s way to live. Being with You will fill me with joy. At Your right hand I will find pleasure forever. Psalm 16:11 ICB

The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide, and to shield me], I shall not want. Psalm 23:1 AMP

  1. I’ve learned in my own life, that often bounty: too much food = temptation. Learning to cook just the amount I need, and not cook extra is very helpful. Or freezing an extra portion immediately for another meal. For me , “Out of site = Out of mind”- But if it is available in the frige, or on my plate- the temptation is too much. A family member who is very slim, always splits a meal with her husband, though she may get a side salad etc. I notice she leaves the bulk of her shared meal for her husband to eat. Don’t you wonder if temptation is due to too much available food?

    • I believe you are right. We are surrounded by abundant food, plus all those food commercials. We drive down the street surrounded by fast food. Our social lives revolve around food. Food is everywhere. But the main issue is my attitude, rather love for food. Also I have a low thyroid issue which causes immediate weight gain. For me, food is like a drug, I have to fight the urge to overeat daily. It is God’s love that helps me, that is . . . when I listen.
