Semi-Fasting – Help Me Understand.

Posted on by

Semi-fasting – Lord, help me understand. For one thing, why am I not losing weight? Given that I’ve only been eating one main meal a day for several days now, I should be losing weight. But I’m at a standstill. In fact I haven’t lost any weight? Why? I did drink milk for breakfast and have soup for the remaining meal. Those scales are staying the same.  Lord, I do want to lose weight and it’s just not happening. Help me understand what is going on with my body. Continue reading

Breakthrough! Praise God!

Posted on by

Breakthrough! At last, hallelujah! Breakthrough! Last week we decided to break out and run away to the Smoky Mountains. Voted Tuesday. Then we left for Gatlinburg, Tennessee to look at leaves.

Before we left, I weighed myself. “Lord, help me lose weight on this trip.” On past trips I usually gained weight. But previously this month, I made a vow to God. “Lord, if You will help me, I’ll only eat three meals a day, half portions, no snacks, and (big sacrifice) . . . no desserts for 40 days.”

All this year I’ve been maintaining, but with a previous gain of 30 lb.  +/-  from last winter. Can’t seem to break this weight gain. Got to have a breakthrough of some kind. If only He would help me, maybe I can get back to where I once was?  Back in the weight loss land of victory. . . size 10.

“Lord, help me lose weight on this trip. I don’t want to gain more and I really want to be used by You.”  On the way there, I confessed to Hubby, “I wished I had never disobeyed God, how He told me to eat. He told me back then, to eat only three meals a day, half portions, and no snacks.”

After I wore those size 10s for almost two years, I went back to my old way of eating and gained 30lbs. back. “Now look at me. I’m an embarrassment to God. After He delivered me with a 90 lbs. weight loss, what did I do? Go back to my old ways. Wish I never did that. Now it’s hard. My body wants to keep everything I feed it, no matter what.”

“They say once you get older, (I’m now 65.) it’s harder to lose weight. Guess I’m there now. My body won’t let it go. Just can’t get breakthrough. I’m stuck at this weight, at this size. Why, why did I backslide? Why?”

The next morning, I cried out to God, “Lord, I want to be used by You to help others.”

Then you must be broken. I use always use broken people.

“What? . . . Okay Lord, break me. Help me be willing to be used however You see fit. Just no pain please, I don’t like pain.”

The first day, we went to Cades Cove. Beautiful. Have you ever just felt like you could breathe easier looking at all God’s beautiful creation? It was gorgeous. Words cannot express the beauty, everywhere you look.

On the way there,  mountain streams were flowing and splashing. Beautiful. Just breathe and relax.

Beautiful Mountain Streams

While there, we ate out a lot. God helped me keep my vow to Him. Ate only three meals, half portions (for the most part), no snacks, and certainly no desserts. It was a real struggle. One restaurant in Pigeon Forge, The Mill, brought us so much food, even Hubby couldn’t eat all his. I heard one lady while standing in line, tell another, “You get ready to eat now.”

She was right. To begin with, they brought us a small bowl of corn chowder (ate it all). Then they brought us a side salad (ate it all). After that, the entree, along with two sides. I had ordered chicken pot pie (ate half of it). It came with two sides. They brought a large bowl of green beans and a sweet potato (didn’t eat either of those, got a take-out instead). Also included was a dessert (didn’t eat any of it, another take-out for Hubby later). The next evening we ate our leftovers for supper, saved some money.

The morning after we arrived back at home, I stood before the scales. Then God spoke to my heart, “Come spend time with Me first.”  And what did I do? Stood on the scales. Lost less than a pound. What? After all that food I passed up? After all I didn’t eat? How could this be?

Then I remembered how God wanted time with me first. Oh. . .  “Lord, I’m sorry. Again I hurt Your feelings. You wanted time with me and I chose the scales first. I’m sorry. Please forgive me.” Thinking, “Well, at least I kept my vow.”

Last Sunday, bought sweets from Senior Choir bake sale. Didn’t eat any. None. Then on Monday, had grandkids over. They ate popcorn. I didn’t. All those sweets and snacks. I looked at them Monday night and thought, “What’s the use?” Looked at them again. “Nope, I’m going to keep my promise to God this time.”

The following Tuesday morning, I looked at the scales. Then I walked away. “It doesn’t matter what the scales say. My relationship with my Lord is more important. He’ll be first today.” Then I went to my prayer spot for personal time with Him. Today He will be first.

Later, after I had cooked breakfast for Hubby, I weighed before eating breakfast. Wow! Breakthrough! LOST TWO POUNDS! Haven’t been this weight since last March. Praise You Lord!

Forgiveness or Eat Your Anger

Posted on by

Forgiveness or eat your anger, which will it be? Since you get to choose, which will it be?

Last week, I found this “Tips on Forgiving”  stuck in my notebooks. Don’t know where it came from, but it’s wonderful advice. Since a lot of us, me included eat our anger, I thought this paper on forgiving would be good for us to chew on.

In order to make it easier for you to read, I retyped it. After you read each each line, stop and think, “How does this apply to me?” Then ask God to show you. After all, getting free from unforgiveness also can free us from compulsive overeating, especially due to unresolved anger.

-TIPS ON FORGIVING-

  1. Know that forgiveness is not forgetting.
  2. Know that forgiveness is a choice.
  3. Know that you have to acknowledge the pain.
  4. Know that forgiveness is incomplete unless you feel it; you must forgive them from your heart.
  5. Know that you cannot wait until you “feel like it”; you never will.
  6. Know that it is not about feelings; it is about freedom.
  7. Know that God will bring out what needs to be forgiven- if we let Him.
  8. Know that sometimes we are not MAD; we are sad and we need to process that.
  9. Know that it is natural to seek revenge; yet as believers, forgiveness is required.
  10. Know that He has already helped you to forgive- you do not need to ask again.
  11. Know that it is a hard choice to forgive- a choice of the will.
  12. Know that once you forgive- you can never again use it against them.
  13. Know that no one forgives without bearing the burden of the sin of the offender.
  14. Know that forgiveness is not for their sake; it is for your sake.
  15. Know that their response to your forgiveness is not the issue.
  16. Know that sometimes it is better to keep this forgiveness to yourself- they might not understand it.
  17. Know that you can forgive, because you have been forgiven.
  18. Know how to forgive much and ask forgiveness more.
  19. Know that to forgive yourself is to final realize that He really does love you.

This little card with the butterfly and angel pinned to it was a gift form two of my grandaughters. I love it. Enjoy the message.

Also below is a picture of a cross stitch piece of 1st Corinthians 13 bought from an estate sale.

The overwhelming message of I Corinthians 13 is all about love. After all, couldn’t we all use more love? Couldn’t we all give more love? In fact, it states that the greatest gift of all is love. Once you forgive others you are free to love, including to love yourself.

Isn’t it wonderful how God loves us? Certainly He never gives up on us , either. He forgives us, even though we don’t deserve it. I know I don’t. How about you? Have you ever asked for His forgiveness?  If not, why not now?

Just talk to Him for yourself, “Lord, I’ve messed up. I know You died for my sins, and I believe You rose from the dead, so I could live too. Would You forgive me and help me clean up all the mess-ups of my life? Come live in my heart. Help me to live for You.”

His forgiveness will lift the weight off your shoulders. Your body size may stay the same, but your heart will be fuller and your step will be lighter. Let me know how it went.

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 NKJV

Supernatural Power of Restoration

Posted on by

Hi there, hope you all are well. I read this article this morning and thought I’d share it with you all- y’all be blessed, Debbie

“The Supernatural Power of Restoration”

“Then the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze chains, and he was a grinder in the prison. However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it was shaved off…It so happened when they were in high spirits, that they said, ‘Call for Samson, that he may amuse us.’ So they called for Samson from the prison, and he entertained them. And they made him stand between the pillars…” (Judges 16:21-22,25)

Consider the heartbreaking story of Samson, who traded the secret of his anointed strength for sin. How foolish he was to throw away his supernatural power in his lust for a traitorous, immoral woman. Yet he did, and he suffered greatly for it. When he revealed to her the secret of his incredible physical strength—his hair that had never been cut since birth—she shaved it off, leaving him powerless against his captors.

At that time, mortal enemies would punish captives by brutally gouging out their eyes, thus rendering them harmless. Once Samson was taken captive, they gouged out his eyes and bound him in chains, forcing him to grind grain for hours every day, tied to a massive millstone, as if he were little more than an ox. As awful as this was, as is often the case, the consequence was unavoidable. He turned away from God when he looked at and lusted after what God had forbidden. Humiliated and alone, he had time to realize that he had brought his grievous suffering on himself. He knew, but ignored the truth. The truth that if God’s people fail to keep their focus on God alone and don’t turn away from temptation, they will fall into enemy hands and lose the power of their anointing—their usefulness to God.

Lost Strength Recovered Through Prayer

Though sightless, his spiritual vision was suddenly sharp, and he realized he was powerless without the Lord. Then came the day when his enemies arranged a celebration and said, “Call for Samson, that he may amuse us!” In front of 3,000 Philistines, he was ruthlessly ridiculed and mocked, yet Samson called out to God, and the strength that he had lost by sin was recovered by prayer! The hair on his head had begun to grow again. Did you catch that? His hair was growing! All that was lost was recovered. Our God is the God of recovery and restoration.

Great were the misdeeds of Samson, and he paid a terrible price for his sin, but he found mercy when he once again cried out to God. He repented and God forgave him. In fact, the celebration ended abruptly when Samson pulled down the pillars that held up the building, killing every one of the Philistines. Remarkably, he is listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11, honored alongside Gideon, David, and Samuel. In the last moments of his life, Samson returned to God, and God answered his prayer and used him greatly.

Perhaps you’ve become spiritually blind due to lust of the flesh. You have looked at evil things and this has led to blurred spiritual vision, chains that bind you, and grinding in a prison where you do not belong. Maybe you even traded your birthright for a cheap bowl of soup. Not only have you lost your eyes (spiritual vision), but you have lost your hair (glory and anointing) as well as your good name and reputation. The enemy has made you a laughing stock to the underworld. You are despised and rejected by men and now you bow your head in shame, wondering if God could ever restore you. If that describes you, I want you to know that God loves to provide restoration and gives second chances to those who repent.

A Cry for Restoration

Cry out to Him with all your heart and soul, and humbly repent for trading your anointing for sin. He will hear your cry for help and answer you. He will give you new vision to see things from His perspective. He will destroy the chains that bind you, and you will walk out of that prison and into your destiny. God declares you righteous because of the Blood of Jesus, and says you will recover all! Trust Him, and know He will rescue and restore you. He will revive you. You will reclaim all, for He is your refuge and strength, and by His power your hair will grow again! (Photo via Steve Porter)

Pray with me: You are a God of recovery and restoration! You love to give second chances to those who truly repent. You will revive me, and I will reclaim all, for You are my refuge and strength, and by Your power my hair will grow again!

If this article hits home, I want to release this prophetic word over your life…

Honey in the Carcass

“Later, when he returned to Timnah for the wedding, he turned off the path to look at the carcass of the lion. And he found that a swarm of bees had made some honey in the carcass.”(Judges 14:8 NLT)

The Father says: “My Precious child, hear the word of the Lord. Even as Samson walked the road toward Timnah and a young lion sprang toward him and roared, My Spirit came upon him with such force that Samson tore the lion apart with his bare hands; he had no weapon other than My power.

“In the same way I was with Samson, I will also be with you as you face the lions of life! They will attempt to terrorize and destroy you as if you were just a goat or a lamb. They roar and send waves of fear that paralyze My children. Yet the same power that caused Samson to rip apart the lion with his bare hands also dwells in you! I live within you, so stir up that anointing and refuse to allow the enemy to cripple you for even one more moment.

“The enemy of your soul, like a roaring lion, seeks to devour My children. Yet I am the Lion of Judah! When I roar, all others must bow before My great power. Samson faced the lion and conquered it, and so will you. After some time had passed, he once again passed the place where he had fought the lion and saw that only its carcass remained. Its flesh had been devoured so only the skeleton survived.

“My child, I want you to see My hand at work here. Your past contains the carcass of the lion that is dead and can no longer hurt you! All that remains is the carcass of painful defeats of your past. The young lion that once brought fear and intimidation now lies dead at your feet. The power of the Holy Spirit has brought the victory. Not even your failures can hurt you anymore, unless you believe and speak otherwise to empower them.

Once you repent for past failures and bad choices, they have no power to hinder you or abort your destiny. For the righteous may fall, but they should choose to stand and fight once again. The enemy will try to tear you down with words of failure, discouragement and weariness—telling you that you will never be victorious—but put him in his place with words of faith that agree with My Word, and he will flee in terror at My name. I have given you power and authority over everything the devil can throw at you, but many of My children remain victimized because they fail to believe Me and act accordingly in faith to thwart the evil plans of the enemy.

“When you choose to agree with My will and My Word, I render harmless the young lions that attempt to destroy your purpose and destiny. I will fight for you as you stand in unity with My power and refuse to doubt. I will even place something sweet within that old carcass for you. Just as Samson found a swarm of bees with honey in the skeleton of that lion, I am going to bring something sweet into your life even from dead places.

“I will bring good even from life’s fiercest battles. Don’t worry about fighting the bees, for they are going to bring something productive into your life. I can even turn your failures into something sweet, so don’t be afraid to pass those skeletons on the road of life and clearly see the lessons I am teaching you. I will give the revelation, the goodness, and even the honey to mature you. Reach in and sweep out the honey from the dead places in your life. (Photo via Steve Porter)

“The enemy will try to declare that you are defenseless and useless to My Kingdom, but I say otherwise, so believe what I say. If you have a skeleton in your closet, repent and let me disarm the enemy with that sweet spirit of repentance, forgiveness, and restoration. The only thing that matters is what I declare.

“Perhaps you have been discouraged and despairing after listening to the lies of the enemy and have walked great distances to avoid looking at the carcasses in your life. Hear this: there’s honey in that carcass. Once you’ve repented, I will turn that carcass into a thing of beauty that I will use to draw others to Me, as you tell of the great things the Lord has done on your behalf. Give those dead things to Me and I will turn them into honey for you. Watch and see the salvation of your God!” (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Just One Week, Guaranteed Weight Loss

My child, give Me one week, just one week. Don’t weigh yourself and don’t think of your size 10’s in the closet. Don’t even think of your goal of losing two pounds a week, or that you’re behind in your self-made schedule for weight loss. Above all, don’t worry or even consider if you can lose 30 pounds by the end of November. By all means, let these concerns go and give them to Me.

In fact this week I want you to focus on Me and My will for you. Don’t eat or even say a blessing  of rote words before a meal until you consult Me first. Ask and seek My will about what you are to eat. Then listen and follow how I lead you. Try this for one week, just one week. Do you think you can do this for just one week?

Yes Sir, I can try.

There’s no trying, I’m asking if you are willing to keep a commitment to Me for just one week. Try My way instead of your way. If you focus on seeking My will, My advice, and follow My way without question or hesitation, then I promise you a guaranteed significant weight loss at the end of this week. Now do you trust me?

Yes Sir.

Think of this as a semi- fast. You will only eat as I direct you, what to eat and when to eat. Now trust Me for I know your body. After all, I created it. You are different from everyone else. Know that I will help you if you trust Me with all your heart, even to the food you put in your mouth.

Yes Sir.

First seek my will. Then listen and obey all My directions for you. Fine tune  your spirit ear to hear Me and listen to My words. If you will follow, trust, and obey for just one week, you’ll be surprised. You do want freedom from this bondage of binge eating, don’t you?

Yes Sir. But Lord, I am weak. You know this.

Child, don’t you know? You are weak, but I am strong. If you lean on Me, I’ll provide all the strength you need. You’re still trying to do this in your own power and it won’t happen, for as you said you’re weak. But know this and let it sink into your soul: I AM STRONG. I love you and as you look to Me, I’ll lead you to your victory.

Lord, I do want to do Your will. Yes, it’s more important to walk in Your Presence than it is to go through life. Without You my belly might be full, but my life would be empty. You Lord, are the reason I live.

Child, I love you and I am for you. Now today, let today be a day of victory for you. I may lead and instruct, but it is you who decides which way you’ll go. Know that My way is guaranteed victory.  The self-way always leads to defeat and discouragement. Sure, it feels good to be in charge and feel you’re in control. But listen to Me, I died for you. So do you think you can trust Me?

Yes Sir.

Then choose, My child, this day whom you will follow. Will it be My will, henceforth victory, or your will? Pride in self-sufficiency ultimately leads to defeat,  discouragement, and failure. Which will you choose?

Child, I implore you for your own good. I want to teach you how to walk with Me. If you walk in My Presence, I will lead you to your victory.

Yes Sir, I want to follow You and I start out well, but sometimes I mess up along the way. Help me to finish well.

My child, I will help you. Now hold on to Me.

Lord, I want You. Is there something tangible, a type of memorial that I could hold in my hand to help me let go of this food and help me remember to look to You?

Child, I’ll give you a gift today. Look for it.
