Semi-fasting – Lord, help me understand. For one thing, why am I not losing weight? Given that I’ve only been eating one main meal a day for several days now, I should be losing weight. But I’m at a standstill. In fact I haven’t lost any weight? Why? I did drink milk for breakfast and have soup for the remaining meal. Those scales are staying the same. Lord, I do want to lose weight and it’s just not happening. Help me understand what is going on with my body. Continue reading Semi-Fasting – Help Me Understand.
Before we left, I weighed myself. “Lord, help me lose weight on this trip.” On past trips I usually gained weight. But previously this month, I made a vow to God. “Lord, if You will help me, I’ll only eat three meals a day, half portions, no snacks, and (big sacrifice) . . . no desserts for 40 days.”
All this year I’ve been maintaining, but with a previous gain of 30 lb. +/- from last winter. Can’t seem to break this weight gain. Got to have a breakthrough of some kind. If only He would help me, maybe I can get back to where I once was? Back in the weight loss land of victory. . . size 10.
“Lord, help me lose weight on this trip. I don’t want to gain more and I really want to be used by You.” On the way there, I confessed to Hubby, “I wished I had never disobeyed God, how He told me to eat. He told me back then, to eat only three meals a day, half portions, and no snacks.”
After I wore those size 10s for almost two years, I went back to my old way of eating and gained 30lbs. back. “Now look at me. I’m an embarrassment to God. After He delivered me with a 90 lbs. weight loss, what did I do? Go back to my old ways. Wish I never did that. Now it’s hard. My body wants to keep everything I feed it, no matter what.”
“They say once you get older, (I’m now 65.) it’s harder to lose weight. Guess I’m there now. My body won’t let it go. Just can’t get breakthrough. I’m stuck at this weight, at this size. Why, why did I backslide? Why?”
The next morning, I cried out to God, “Lord, I want to be used by You to help others.”
Then you must be broken. I use always use broken people.
“What? . . . Okay Lord, break me. Help me be willing to be used however You see fit. Just no pain please, I don’t like pain.”
The first day, we went to Cades Cove. Beautiful. Have you ever just felt like you could breathe easier looking at all God’s beautiful creation? It was gorgeous. Words cannot express the beauty, everywhere you look.
On the way there, mountain streams were flowing and splashing. Beautiful. Just breathe and relax.
While there, we ate out a lot. God helped me keep my vow to Him. Ate only three meals, half portions (for the most part), no snacks, and certainly no desserts. It was a real struggle. One restaurant in Pigeon Forge, The Mill, brought us so much food, even Hubby couldn’t eat all his. I heard one lady while standing in line, tell another, “You get ready to eat now.”
She was right. To begin with, they brought us a small bowl of corn chowder (ate it all). Then they brought us a side salad (ate it all). After that, the entree, along with two sides. I had ordered chicken pot pie (ate half of it). It came with two sides. They brought a large bowl of green beans and a sweet potato (didn’t eat either of those, got a take-out instead). Also included was a dessert (didn’t eat any of it, another take-out for Hubby later). The next evening we ate our leftovers for supper, saved some money.
The morning after we arrived back at home, I stood before the scales. Then God spoke to my heart, “Come spend time with Me first.” And what did I do? Stood on the scales. Lost less than a pound. What? After all that food I passed up? After all I didn’t eat? How could this be?
Then I remembered how God wanted time with me first. Oh. . . “Lord, I’m sorry. Again I hurt Your feelings. You wanted time with me and I chose the scales first. I’m sorry. Please forgive me.” Thinking, “Well, at least I kept my vow.”
Last Sunday, bought sweets from Senior Choir bake sale. Didn’t eat any. None. Then on Monday, had grandkids over. They ate popcorn. I didn’t. All those sweets and snacks. I looked at them Monday night and thought, “What’s the use?” Looked at them again. “Nope, I’m going to keep my promise to God this time.”
The following Tuesday morning, I looked at the scales. Then I walked away. “It doesn’t matter what the scales say. My relationship with my Lord is more important. He’ll be first today.” Then I went to my prayer spot for personal time with Him. Today He will be first.
Later, after I had cooked breakfast for Hubby, I weighed before eating breakfast. Wow! Breakthrough! LOST TWO POUNDS! Haven’t been this weight since last March. Praise You Lord!
So now we come freely and boldly to where love is enthroned, to receive mercy’s kiss and discover the grace we urgently need to strengthen us in our time of weakness. Hebrews 4:16 TPT
“Gaze upon Him, join your life with His, and joy will come. Your faces will glisten with glory. You’ll never wear that shame-face again. When I had nothing, desperate and defeated, I cried out to the Lord and He heard me, bringing HIs miracle- deliverance when I needed it the most.” Psalms 34:5-6 TPT

Forgiveness or eat your anger, which will it be? Since you get to choose, which will it be?
Last week, I found this “Tips on Forgiving” stuck in my notebooks. Don’t know where it came from, but it’s wonderful advice. Since a lot of us, me included eat our anger, I thought this paper on forgiving would be good for us to chew on.
In order to make it easier for you to read, I retyped it. After you read each each line, stop and think, “How does this apply to me?” Then ask God to show you. After all, getting free from unforgiveness also can free us from compulsive overeating, especially due to unresolved anger.
-TIPS ON FORGIVING-
- Know that forgiveness is not forgetting.
- Know that forgiveness is a choice.
- Know that you have to acknowledge the pain.
- Know that forgiveness is incomplete unless you feel it; you must forgive them from your heart.
- Know that you cannot wait until you “feel like it”; you never will.
- Know that it is not about feelings; it is about freedom.
- Know that God will bring out what needs to be forgiven- if we let Him.
- Know that sometimes we are not MAD; we are sad and we need to process that.
- Know that it is natural to seek revenge; yet as believers, forgiveness is required.
- Know that He has already helped you to forgive- you do not need to ask again.
- Know that it is a hard choice to forgive- a choice of the will.
- Know that once you forgive- you can never again use it against them.
- Know that no one forgives without bearing the burden of the sin of the offender.
- Know that forgiveness is not for their sake; it is for your sake.
- Know that their response to your forgiveness is not the issue.
- Know that sometimes it is better to keep this forgiveness to yourself- they might not understand it.
- Know that you can forgive, because you have been forgiven.
- Know how to forgive much and ask forgiveness more.
- Know that to forgive yourself is to final realize that He really does love you.
This little card with the butterfly and angel pinned to it was a gift form two of my grandaughters. I love it. Enjoy the message.
Also below is a picture of a cross stitch piece of 1st Corinthians 13 bought from an estate sale.
The overwhelming message of I Corinthians 13 is all about love. After all, couldn’t we all use more love? Couldn’t we all give more love? In fact, it states that the greatest gift of all is love. Once you forgive others you are free to love, including to love yourself.
Isn’t it wonderful how God loves us? Certainly He never gives up on us , either. He forgives us, even though we don’t deserve it. I know I don’t. How about you? Have you ever asked for His forgiveness? If not, why not now?
Just talk to Him for yourself, “Lord, I’ve messed up. I know You died for my sins, and I believe You rose from the dead, so I could live too. Would You forgive me and help me clean up all the mess-ups of my life? Come live in my heart. Help me to live for You.”
His forgiveness will lift the weight off your shoulders. Your body size may stay the same, but your heart will be fuller and your step will be lighter. Let me know how it went.
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 NKJV
Supernatural weight loss, God’s way really works. It’s true. I tried His way and lost 11 pounds. I tried my way, overate, and gained weight. With God’s way I lost weight. Thank you Lord. Happy dance!
My child, give Me one week, just one week. Don’t weigh yourself and don’t think of your size 10’s in the closet. Don’t even think of your goal of losing two pounds a week, or that you’re behind in your self-made schedule for weight loss. Above all, don’t worry or even consider if you can lose 30 pounds by the end of November. By all means, let these concerns go and give them to Me.
In fact this week I want you to focus on Me and My will for you. Don’t eat or even say a blessing of rote words before a meal until you consult Me first. Ask and seek My will about what you are to eat. Then listen and follow how I lead you. Try this for one week, just one week. Do you think you can do this for just one week?
Yes Sir, I can try.
There’s no trying, I’m asking if you are willing to keep a commitment to Me for just one week. Try My way instead of your way. If you focus on seeking My will, My advice, and follow My way without question or hesitation, then I promise you a guaranteed significant weight loss at the end of this week. Now do you trust me?
Think of this as a semi- fast. You will only eat as I direct you, what to eat and when to eat. Now trust Me for I know your body. After all, I created it. You are different from everyone else. Know that I will help you if you trust Me with all your heart, even to the food you put in your mouth.
First seek my will. Then listen and obey all My directions for you. Fine tune your spirit ear to hear Me and listen to My words. If you will follow, trust, and obey for just one week, you’ll be surprised. You do want freedom from this bondage of binge eating, don’t you?
Yes Sir. But Lord, I am weak. You know this.
Child, don’t you know? You are weak, but I am strong. If you lean on Me, I’ll provide all the strength you need. You’re still trying to do this in your own power and it won’t happen, for as you said you’re weak. But know this and let it sink into your soul: I AM STRONG. I love you and as you look to Me, I’ll lead you to your victory.
Lord, I do want to do Your will. Yes, it’s more important to walk in Your Presence than it is to go through life. Without You my belly might be full, but my life would be empty. You Lord, are the reason I live.
Child, I love you and I am for you. Now today, let today be a day of victory for you. I may lead and instruct, but it is you who decides which way you’ll go. Know that My way is guaranteed victory. The self-way always leads to defeat and discouragement. Sure, it feels good to be in charge and feel you’re in control. But listen to Me, I died for you. So do you think you can trust Me?
Then choose, My child, this day whom you will follow. Will it be My will, henceforth victory, or your will? Pride in self-sufficiency ultimately leads to defeat, discouragement, and failure. Which will you choose?
Child, I implore you for your own good. I want to teach you how to walk with Me. If you walk in My Presence, I will lead you to your victory.
Yes Sir, I want to follow You and I start out well, but sometimes I mess up along the way. Help me to finish well.
My child, I will help you. Now hold on to Me.
Lord, I want You. Is there something tangible, a type of memorial that I could hold in my hand to help me let go of this food and help me remember to look to You?
Child, I’ll give you a gift today. Look for it.
Liar! You know he’s a liar. Now stop listening to those lies of accusation. Don’t listen to the liars of defeat and discouragement either. Have you ever heard these words in your spirit? Then refuse to accept to accept them. They’re lies from the chief liar.
You’ll never lose this extra weight. Your body is getting older now and your metabolism is slower too. So you probably won’t lose this weight. The part of your life when losing weight came easy is over now. The freedom of eating whatever is gone forever. You will have to spend the rest of your life counting calories, carbs, and measuring your food. Oh, what a life of misery this is. You’re going to have to eat salads and baked chicken for the rest of your life. How boring for you. Why did God make you this way, so easy to gain weight with low thyroid and all. You know why? This is why, He doesn’t care about you or what you eat.
Why don’t you just give up? Relax and just eat what ever your heart desires. Just be a happy fat person. After all, no one really cares. You know, fat is in. Body shaming is out. You’re constantly body shaming yourself. Why don’t you just enjoy being fat. Everybody else does. Relax. After all, who really cares how much you weigh? God doesn’t even care if you’re fat. So why do you struggle to lose weight? Just let yourself go. Enjoy your food. After, God created pleasure. So experience your pleasures of life. Eat, drink, and be merry.
All of those statements are from the liar of liars. What does God say?
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you; Take your everyday ordinary life- your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking around life- and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2 The Message
What’s that saying to you? How do these words compare to the words of the liar? Who do you want to believe, God or the Liar?
Have you ever heard these words?
Go ahead, charge it. After all, it’s on sale. If you don’t get it now, it’ll be gone tomorrow. You better get it now. While it’s on sale is the best time to buy. Just think of all the money you’re saving. You can pay it back later. It doesn’t really matter. You’ll pay it back.
What about these words?
Go ahead, put the trip on your charge card. After all, it’s a business expense. In fact you can count it off on your taxes later. This whole trip, the gas, the hotel, and all your food counts as a business expense. Since it’s business, you can count all this off on your taxes. So go ahead and pick the nicer restaurants. There’s no need to cut expenses. Go for it. After all, you’re a success now. So it doesn’t matter if you use the charge card. This is business. Go for it.
Have you ever heard this?
You need these supplies/services to build your business. Get them now and use the charge card. After all, it takes money to make money. So go ahead and buy these supplies now. They’re here now and you won’t find them later. Doesn’t matter if you use the charge card, you’ll pay it back with all the money you make. Just think of all the profit you’ll make. This is an investment. Go ahead, and charge it. After all, you need this right now in order to succeed. So go for it. After all, you’re going to be successful. Then it won’t matter that you charged these supplies.
Yep, all lies from the chief liar. What does God say?
The poor are always ruled over by the rich, so don’t borrow and put yourself under their power. Proverbs 22: 7 The Message

Now wouldn’t it be nice if it was that easy? I could use a new mind. What about you?
“Lord, would You grant me a new mind. Help me put off this old mind with its old ways of overeating and my overspending too. Yes, the way I’ve spent money and overeaten has been crazy. Overall, I need a brand new mind.”
Over the years I’ve lied to myself. Have you ever lied to yourself?
“It’s okay to buy this on credit. Later you can pay it back. Then all evidence of using the credit card will be gone.” Or rather, “It’s okay to enjoy this abundant junky food. It’s so sweet and satisfying. Or it’s salty and crunchy. Betcha you can’t eat just one. After all you can start that new diet tomorrow. Then you’ll lose it. After all, it only takes a couple of days of dieting, then all evidence of this binge will be gone. So no one will ever know.”
Lies, it’s all lies I tell myself. What lies have you told yourself?
Overall, I’ve told myself many lies and believed them too. Consequently all these lies led to entrapment, in overwhelming debt and in excess weight too. My mind was corrupted by my deceitful desires for the right-now instant gratification of selfishness.
“Now Lord, I want to give You my corrupt mind full of all its desire for more self-gratification. Would You take this corrupt mind, cleanse it and make it new again? Grant me please, a new mind renewed with a yielded attitude to Your will both for my eating and my spending.”
“Lord, would You forgive me for my sin of putting my selfish desires first? And help me focus my whole self on seeking Your will and trusting You completely. Also could You help me yield myself to Your control in all things without hesitation and/or question?”
Above all Lord, I want You in my whole life, not just just the church/religious part. Namely would You take control over every part of my life, especially when I shop and every time I eat? Certainly I want more of You. Could I just have more of You and Your Presence versus all this stuff or all this unnecessary food?
Lord, are You there?
Child, I am here with you now. And yes, I hear your prayers. I will lead you as you seek Me. But I will only watch as you seek to satisfy your own desires. I will not make you change.
It is only as you ask, listen, and then follow that I will lead. I cannot and will not zap you to make you change. You have to choose for yourself. If you choose My will , then I will supply you with all you need to achieve your victory. But My child, you have to choose for yourself. This is not a one-time choice either. No, it’s a constant, everyday, every minute choice. Throughout your time. You are making choices. If you choose My way, then I’ll strengthen you beyond your comprehension. Now My child, choose. What will it be?
Above all, help me to choose You Lord, to seek You, and to follow Your will. Because Lord, I want You more than anything. That is to say, You are My everything.
I’m not giving up!
You were taught with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24
|I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye. Psalm 32: 8
|I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your]reasonable service. Romans 12:1|
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Ephesians 4:23
Lord, is it possible to have a new beginning with You again? Could You forgive me about last nights ice cream? Oh, and the cookies, chips, nuts, and granola bar too. Please forgive me for last night’s binge. And, thank you the scales didn’t go up this morning. That’s a sure miracle. Your mercy amazes me, especially with all my mess-ups. and backsliding.
My friend has been fasting in prayer for her brother who’s sick. She’s lost noticeable weight and looks good too. Yes, I do want to lose more weight, but I also want to maintain the fullness of Your Presence. I want to feel victorious so I can pray without feeling ashamed due to my own sins of gluttony. It’s my desire to make You proud as I eat in submission to Your will. You know what’s best for my body and I trust You. I just have a weakness resisting pleasure food. Help me, allow me to start over again with You.
Child, I’m the God of many second chances. I died so that you (and others too) could be cleansed and delivered from ALL sins. I died so that you could enter into the Almighty Presence of God. None is worthy. No, not one. It’s only because of the price I paid, the shedding of My blood as a sacrifice – the price I gave freely so that you and others could enter in My Presence.
Lord, how can I make You proud?
Love Me, seek Me, and trust Me. Listen and obey, for there is no other way. There’s much truth in that child’s song. Let the little children lead you. Behold, how easily they trust and love. You should do the same. Follow their example. There’s much truth in the saying, “The little children shall lead them.”
Okay Lord, I’ll try. But I need Your guidance. How do You want me to eat so I can be a testimony of Your forgiveness and Your delivering power? Others who are struggling need to know You can deliver them, especially when what they need is deliverance from their own selves? That’s what causes most of all my problems- self, myself.
Lord, do You want me to eat only two meals a day or just three meals a day, give up all desserts, or just give all my favorite pleasure foods? Do I wait until I am physically hungry to eat? Do I only eat half portions? Should I get hungry and stay hungry?
Yesterday I started out with intentions to eating only two meals. Then I got real hungry and ate past full. Later last night, I rationalized that ice cream could be my third meal. Well, we both know where that led to – another binge. I should have drank something instead.
Now I’m at another bottom with my weight. This is the biggest I’ve since 2014. I want my size 10 pants back. Where do You want me with my eating and my weight? Help me obey You and eat what is good for this body You gave me. I want to become stronger, both physically and spiritually, mentally too.
Child, as You seek My will for your eating, some days you’ll be led to eat only two meals, and some days three meals. Occasionally, I may lead you to eat no meals. Each day will be a new beginning. These new beginnings won’t be the same as a new beginning after a binge, but a new day of learning to trust Me and walking in My will.
I want you to learn how to trust, listen, and then obey as I lead you. With each new day as you practice these skills, You will grow stronger. Again, your focus is not to follow rules, but instead your focus will be to deny yourself and follow Me. I want you to learn how to deny yourself and become stronger in My Presence. When your self is completely defeated, then your victory is achieved. Self is your enemy. You must learn and become efficient in defeating self.
Thank you Lord for talking with me and giving me Your instructions yet another time in my struggles with this food addiction. I’m amazed over Your mercy and Your love toward me. You have shown me yet another time of mercy. This I know, I don’t deserve Your love. I can’t earn it, but I want it. Thank you for loving me. Help me to please You in every way that I am or ever will be.
. . . do not worry about your life, what you will eat nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food and the body is more than clothing. Luke 12:22-23.
. . . choose life, . . . that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life . . . Deuteronomy 30: 19-20
Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. 2 John 1:3
Lord, what do You want me to eat today? While this past week I thought I was following Your directions . . . except for a few desserts. Since I gained 2 pounds, I’m at a loss. Lord, I want to give up and just eat everything. Why can’t I eat what I want now? And eat it all. Why can’t I?
Even though I want to eat everything, I know this won’t help my situation. So would You please help me with food selection? Now tell me, do I try to semi-fast for 40 days? Rather should I give up desserts since that’s my problem?
Child, you haven’t succeeded yet with fasting your social media or eating after supper. So what do you want? Do you want more instructions, or rather more rules? Rules that you know you won’t follow?
Oh Lord, I don’t know. All I do know is that I want my size 10 pants back. How do I get them back? What can I do to make these scales go down instead of up? Why can’t I have my size 10’s and eat everything I want? Why can’t I?
You have much to learn.
Lord, at my age, you’d think I would already know what I need to know.
Child, you are only beginning to learn. Now what do you want more, those size 10 pants, or My Presence?
Lord, I know what the correct answer should be. But I really want my size 10 pants back?
Ahhh, . . . what I have here is an honest child.
Lord, I might as well tell You the truth. You already know all things, so why lie to You? Can You help me? Will You help me?
Child, I’m going to do more than that. You watch and see.
There is more to come and more to come off too. And I’m not just talking about your weight. There is more to come off of you, My child, characteristics, habits, wrong thoughts, and bad attitudes, not to mention your selfishness. I am going to change you completely in all ways.
Lord, I’m scared. After all, I don’t like pain and this sounds painful.
Trust Me, My child. Doubt, that’s the first thing you are going to lose. Doubt.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Roman 8: 5
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37
You see, every child of God overcomes the world, for our faith is the victorious power that triumphs over the world. So who are the conquerors, defeating its power? Those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5: 4,5 The Passion Translation
